It invokes a sense of belonging within individuals and leads them to form communities and meet new people. A courtyard is a space which is so versatile, that it not only promotes verbal communication but also gives a space which can be used for gathering and recreation. Thus, courtyard plays a major role in helping people build communities. It gives them the freedom to engage with people with the same interests and thus serves as a place to build up on not ony their contacts but also their relations.
